A Letter to a Former Lover

My Love,

I miss you beyond dreams
Beyond the hope of
Who we were
Beyond laughter
Beyond smiles
Beyond midnight entangles
Beyond unified heart beats
Beyond forever miles
Beyond all the stars in
The sky that sparkle—
I miss you
I miss you
To miss you is
Simple

I miss you
Because
I love you
Because
I know us two but
There’s always
A but—

But
I’m here without you
But
I’m moving on
But
I can’t give you
What you need and
You’re moving on…

But, isn’t that ironic?

I give you support
I give you your time
I give you my love
But—
I just can’t
Give you
All of
Me
Because
I need and
I’d miss
All of
Me—
Can’t you see?

Knowing me
I deserve
Love without
Surrender
Love without
Demand
I deserve love
Step in step
Hand in hand
Mutual understanding
A lover and
A best friend

But—
I miss the thought of
Who we were
Because
I’ve never grown
This much in
Love before

Before you
I never knew
Beyond you
I hope it’s true
That love can
Grow miracles and
Time can
Heal hearts
What a wonder
Love gives to
My rambling thoughts!

But…

There’s always a but…

A but to
Being a lover
A but to
Being a friend
A but to
This poem
A but without end…
Going ‘round
Going ‘round
From this chaos
I need to
Transcend
But—

I will always love you as
A lover and
A friend.

Forever in my heart
I miss you

Love Always,
Christa A. Lamb
